Trapped

“Tell me what you see.”

“A child.” Came the reply.

“A child,” an amazed snicker. “My, she hasn’t been called that in a long while.” He smiled affectionately.

“What do you mean? She can’t be more than 12 or so.”

“She’s got the demeanor of an eight-year-old at times, and she looks twelve, but she’s double the second plus one.” Case smiled sadly while admiring the vigorous blonde scribbling furiously in a pink notebook.

“Twenty Five? She’s twen-ty five? No way. I’d give sixteen or seventeen maybe, but not twenty five.” Came Joaquin’s adamant response. “And what do you mean by ‘the demeanor of an eight-year-old?’ Surely you don’t mean that literally.”

“’Fraid so. Real tragic like. Pregnant at twenty and again at twenty-two, but not married or looking for a husband. She’s in love with the father, and simple refuses to give up and marry someone else to care for her or the girls.”

“What’s that got to do with her demeanor? Loving someone isn’t tragic.” Joaquin stared at his friend’s cryptic response.

Case sighed. “For her it was.”

Tell me what you think her problem should be. I know she's got to be mentally unstable to be this way, but I don't know where to go with it or what the cause will really be.
